Education is a core value of CADD Microsystems, and one way we live that value is by empowering the DBO community to share knowledge and connect. 

Every year, technical talent from across the globe submits presentations for consideration at Autodesk University and other high-profile conferences. Unfortunately, not every submission can be selected - not because the ideas aren't innovative or relevant, it's just a matter of limited presentation slots. Because of this, some very insightful and valuable information doesn't get shared to a wider audience. We changed that last year with the launch of our AU Passes series, and we were pleased to continue again this year.

In this session, we will show the tools and workflows native to ACC Model Coordination with options to supplement in Navisworks. Twelve Days of CADD Care | Day Eleven: Autodesk Docs, Build, and ABC Pro for Government Organizations

#### On the tenth day of CADD Care, the CADD team gave to me… a quick way to convert repeating geometry into Blocks!

The new AutoCAD command BCONVERT enables AutoCAD 2025 users to convert non-block geometry into block geometry.  This new command will be an excellent companion to the existing PDF Import Command as blocks formerly part of a DWG file do not survive conversion to PDF.  To convert repeating non-block geometry into block geometry, an AutoCAD 2025 user will type BCONVERT, press enter, and then select the geometry to convert into blocks.  AutoCAD will identify additional instances of this geometry and allow the user to convert this geometry into a new or an existing block using the Convert dialog box.  This command will quickly become a new favorite of many AutoCAD users, including this one!  Happy AutoCAD everyone!

Twelve Days of CADD Care | Day Ten: Effortlessly Convert to Blocks with BCONVERT

On the ninth day of CADD Care, the CADD team gave to me… a time-saving tool in Dynamo! ⏳✨

While developing dynamo scripts we frequently use pinned output previews to see the data coming out of the node. This allows us to confirm the node is processing as expected. It is good practice to unpin these previews when the script is complete to make it easier to read. However, normally there are several of these throughout the graph and going one by one through the script to unpin them is time consuming, and therefore frequently gets skipped. In Dynamo Core 3.2.1 and later there is a new tool in the edit menu named “Unpin All Preview Bubbles.” This version is currently included with Revit 2025.2 and Civil 3D 2025.1

Twelve Days of CADD Care | Day Nine: Dynamo Hack: Quickly Unpin All Preview Bubbles in Your Scripts

#### On the eighth day of CADD Care, the CADD team gave to me… the gift of easy Autodesk license management! 

This festive season, we’re excited to bring you practical insights for navigating CADD tools. Today, we're shedding light on the process of assigning or reassigning Autodesk licenses, ensuring the right team member has access to your newly purchased software. 

Here’s how to keep your licenses optimized and accessible:

1. Assign a User:
- Go to User Management > By User.
- Select the user profile to view assignable products.
- Choose a product and click Assign.

If you notice that a newly purchased license is not available you may need to reassign it to the
correct user. To do so you can follow these steps:

1. Unassign a User:
- Sign in at manage.autodesk.com and click User Management > By Product.
- Select the product to view assigned users.
- Click Unassign next to the user to revoke their license.
- Follow the "Assign a User" steps from above to reassign the license

Twelve Days of CADD Care | Day Eight: Assign and Reassign Autodesk Licenses with Ease!

#### On the seventh day of CADD Care, the CADD team gave to me… insights on Revit’s overlooked command options!

Many commands in Revit have options that can be easily overlooked.  You can use these commands over and over and never realize their full potential, simply because you ignored the options at you disposal.  Or because you never had a need for a particular outcome, but when that need arises, you don't know how to achieve it because you have never tried other command options and don't even know they are available.

I have experienced that many times as a consultant.  Since my many clients have very disparate needs and desired outcomes, I am constantly discovering new ways to use tools in Revit because I never needed to do what my clients need to do.  Sometimes these commands and options have been staring me in the face the entire time I've been using Revit, but since I have never had a need for them, they were kind of in my blind spot.

One such command is the Spot Elevation dimension tool and its several options.  When I have used this dimension in the past, I just clicked on an element and bang, a dimension appeared, and I moved on.  Recently I was working with a structural engineer and he had a need to display the various elevations of walls in his plans, like the bottom and top of a wall.  I immediately thought of Spot Elevations, but in my mind, it wouldn't work because I thought a Spot Elevation on a wall in plan would only display the elevation of the Cut Plane in the View Range.

Boy was I wrong.  All because I never looked at the options:

As I said, I never really paid attention to these options before.  For the "Display Elevations" options, here is what is displayed in plan for each:

To understand what each of these options is referencing, here is an elevation view of these elements:

Finally, here are the "Relative Base" options and what they display for my CMU Wall with the Current Level at Level 2:

So the moral of the story is pay attention to your Options, they could come in handy!

Twelve Days of CADD Care | Day Seven: With Revit Spot Elevation Dimensions, You Have Options!

#### On the sixth day of CADD Care, the CADD team gave to me… advanced Corridor Transitions in Civil 3D!

Since the release of Civil 3D 2023, corridors have seen a ton of new roadway design features added and old workflows overhauled. Look no further than the new and enhanced Corridor Target dialog boxes and functionality. One of the more impressive additions to the corridor object is the new ability to create and edit Corridor Transitions. These transitions can be used when you want to transition or change a parameter in a subassembly.

The Corridor Transition panorama vista allows the user to select a supported subassembly parameter and to apply a new parametric value to that value. To increase the detail and functionality of this tool, the transition between the parameters can be dialed in. The transition types include: Linear, Bay Taper, Cubic In/Out, Parabolic In/Out, and Reverse Parabolic. These new transitions can allow users to create more complex corridors without the need for additional targeting geometry being created or intricate overrides setup. Additionally, this is a simpler method than using the existing Section Editor and parameter overrides and can be exported from Civil 3D and applied to other corridor designs and projects as a template.

Once exported from Civil 3D, the corridor transition is easily editable in Microsoft Excel or a text editor. This allows users to add additional details to the corridor transition design and to append additional transisions to the existing baseline. By simply modifying the CSV transition file curb returns can be placed at all required locations along the corridor:

Twelve Days of CADD Care | Day Six: Take Control of Curb Returns with Corridor Transitions

On the fifth day of CADD Care, my CADD team gave to me… a less painful way to look at PDFs. 
<br>

We all know that PDFs are designed to represent printed document without the need for proprietary software. Therefore, PDFs have historically been shown with a white background, representing the white paper. White screens emit significantly more light and therefore exposes your eyes to more direct visible light, not to mention requires more energy. 

In response to the continued requests, Bluebeam added a new feature to the Navigation Bar named “Dark Mode” to Revu 21.3. This tool inverts the typical white background to be black, and any black lines and text become white. This is just a graphical change and does not actually modify the document in anyway.

#### On the fourth day of CADD Care, the CADD team gave to me… a Forma tip! 

When I was a child, after opening all the presents on Christmas morning, I would always double-check under the tree to make sure we did not miss a present.

With the Autodesk AEC Collections, there is a present that most people have not opened. It is Autodesk® Forma®!

Autodesk Forma is a great product for preliminary site studies that allows you to run instant analysis on multiple proposals. It can import existing buildings, property boundaries, roads, and terrain.  It can also import aerial and satellite imagery. This will provide context for your next building design.

Autodesk Forma gives you instant information about your design in accurate square footage as you lay your design. The program’s other analyses include Sun Hours, Daylight Potential, Wind Studies, Microclimate, Operation Energy, Noise Studies, and Solar Energy. All these analyses can be conducted easily using the simple interface.

Autodesk Forma also works with Revit by allowing import to and from Revit. Exports to Revit create Revit geometry and bring in site data.  
Autodesk Form is free if you have the AEC Collection. It is time to take a peek inside of the AEC Collection for the unopened present!

Twelve Days of CADD Care | Day Four: The Unopened Present: Autodesk Forma

#### On the third day of CADD Care, the CADD team gave to me… an all-encompassing Autodesk Construction Cloud Graphic!

Its another holiday season! This means we at CADD get to offer some sweet bits of information in ye old digital stocking. You guessed right, it's not candy, but instead its sweet information!

A lot of times I get asked what the Cloud is and prior to having some visuals, I would proceed to list off the products in it, what they do, maybe some cool stuff about how it's all connected, but I never felt like my students, or whomever I was speaking with, was really grasping what it is.  I am sure some of you out there have run into a similar situation trying to explain it internally or roll it out on a project. SO, after a while of cut/paste and merging/clipping to creating our own....

We now have this AWESOME graphic to show and share with people. I like this graphic because it shows all of the products on a logical AEC timeline progression. You can see how the data is created with AEC Collections during Design, Build for Construction and moves all the way to Tandem during O&M with the Owner. It's almost like a Cheat Sheet to Autodesk Construction Cloud Solutions for every stakeholder & Project related task.

Twelve Days of CADD Care | Day Three: Your Go-To Graphic for Understanding the Autodesk Construction Cloud

#### On the second day of CADD Care, the CADD team gave to me…Autodesk Report Updates!

Autodesk has released an early Christmas list of updates to the Usage Report in the Autodesk Account that will improve admin efficiency. These enhancements will help admins save time searching for and managing their users.
These are the new Autodesk Usage Report updates:

- **View user email addresses**:  Quickly identify whether a user is internal/external based on their email domain or differentiate users with similar names. Email addresses are now displayed directly below a user’s name in the Usage Report.

- **Link directly to User Management or Seat Usage/Token Usage:** Accomplish tasks in fewer clicks with links by selecting a user to view details in Usage Report directly to user Management or Seat Usage/Token Usage.

- **Rolling date range consistency across reporting**– All account export, seat usage, and token usage pages will have their past 3/6/9/12 months pre-defined date range options aligned with the ranges in the usage report. Previously, the export and seat usage pages’ date ranges displayed data only related to fully completed months.

- **Usage export custom date picker**– On the all account export page, admins will soon have a custom date range picker applicable to the usage category export. With this improvement, the all dates option will be removed.

Over this past year, Autodesk has made several updates to improve the Autodesk Account for admins. Understanding users' subscriptions and Flex usage helps admin optimize their licenses and ensure the productivity of their users. Autodesk has specifically updated their reporting, to help admins save time with increased efficiency and more control.

One of these recent updates is the **assigned date in the Autodesk usage report**.  You can now view the most recently assigned date and, if applicable, the most recently unassigned date in your usage report export and, for Premium customers, the Premium reporting. The new data helps you make smarter licensing decisions by offering valuable context when reviewing usage patterns.

Another exciting update focused on making it easier to access products and updates is that **all users – including trial users – automatically receive the latest updates when downloading and installing Autodesk software, helping more people experience the value of their latest product enhancements.**

Autodesk also has several projects that they are currently working on that will help admins save time with increased efficiency and more control:

- **Enhanced support case management –** Admins will soon be able to manage their support cased directly from their Autodesk account. This new centralized view allows you to see case count, details, submissions, and statuses all in one place.

- **Save Column Views** – When admins show or hide columns in the usage report, they will soon save from session to session, allowing admins to easily review the same data points between sessions.

- **Schedule update installations** – Soon admins will be able to simplify the update process by scheduling updates for groups of users and products on their desired cadence, helping more of their users to operate on the most up-to-date software.



I have always considered the end of the year as my favorite time for several reasons. It is a natural time to reflect on the past year and personal achievements. Christmas is filled with traditions, family gatherings, and festive activities that create lasting memories. 

The transition from one year to the next gives everyone a new beginning. Autodesk customers can look forward to these new updates that will be available in the coming year.

When facility owners and operators embrace BIM, they can benefit from enhanced transparency, improved decision-making, and increased operational efficiency using Autodesk Tandem. The definition of a digital twin can vary, but here at CADD Microsystems, we define it as:
