Bluebeam® Revu® 20 has arrived! Do you know the best way to upgrade your team?
Below are some best practices for upgrading and setting yourself up for license management success! When Bluebeam releases a version update, such as Revu 20, three things will need to happen:
- You’ll need a new version 20 serial number and product key to be generated.
- The older version should be un-registered, THEN uninstalled.
- The new version must be installed on the user’s machine and registered with the new 20 license information.
Before upgrading there are some questions you should ask:
First: Do I have any Studio users?
Before upgrading, check in all Studio Project files and ensure pending Studio Session items have uploaded to avoid potential data conflicts between versions.Second: Is my entire team ready to move to Revu 20, or do we need to move the team in segments?
If you’d like to move a test group to 20, please reach out to Bridget at CADD or registration@bluebeam.com and let them know how many of each version you’d like to move to Revu 20. They will then adjust the available licenses on each serial number accordingly. If you’d like to move everyone, follow the instructions below based on your license type.
Third: Do I want to use a deployment package?
Bluebeam offers enterprise deployment packages for remotely pushing out version and patch updates.Fourth: What type of license do I have?
If your Serial Number starts in 96XXXXX, then you have Open Licenses.
Here are upgrade instructions for Open Licenses:- Upgrades for Open Licenses can be accessed in the Gateway. Once you log in, you'll automatically be issued a Product Key for the latest version.
- Revoke the old product Key from the computers through the Gateway. Direction for revoking computers can be found here.
- Download the new Revu 20 install and register with your same serial number and new 20 Product Key.
If your Serial Number starts in 98XXXXX then you have Enterprise Licenses.
Upgrade instructions for Enterprise Licenses:- You’ll need to generate the new serial number and product key for Revu 20.
- Everyone will not have to move up at once, but best practice is to move all users and deregister old within 30 days.
- Since you have enterprise, you can simply push out the version 20 install using a deployment package, (or each user can individually download the software) then revoke the old serial number from the computers through the Gateway. Direction for revoking computers can be found here.
If you have any other Revu Serial Number, then you have Perpetual Licenses:
If you have any other Revu Serial Number, then you have Perpetual Licenses:
Upgrade instructions for Perpetual Licenses:
- You’ll need to generate the new serial number and product key for Revu 20
-
- Everyone does not have to move up at once, but best practice is to move all users and deregister old within 30 days.
-
- Unregister old installs then uninstall the old software from the computer
- Unregistering licenses in Revu 2019 or 2018: Open Revu and go to Revu > Unregister. Close Revu after you have successfully unregistered.
- Unregistering licenses in Revu 2017: https://support.bluebeam.com/articles/revu-transfer-license-to-new-computer/#revu-2017
- Install the new Revu 20 software and register it with the 20 license information
Why do I need to unregister the old installs?
To make sure your available vs installed numbers report accurately, you’ll want to revoke the old serial number as the user moves up to version 20.Full MSI
If you are pushing the full 20.x MSI, the previous version of Revu must be uninstalled first. Use the “Uninstall Previous Version” script provided in the MSI package. The MSI will not uninstall previous versions.
Unregister old:
- A script for removing older Revu versions. (Uninstall Previous Version.txt – Please change the file extension to .bat before running it. Once the file is changed from a text file to a batch file, run it with elevated privileges. This batch file will unregister and uninstall Revu (any version) on the machine).
If you’re upgrading from 2015.x to Revu 20, you should not run the “Uninstall Previous Versions” script included in the MSI Deployment Package. In this instance, the Revu 20 installer will detect, unregister and uninstall the older software.
