Twelve Days of CADD Care | Day Seven: An easy way to situate catch basins!

Bennett EarleDecember 11th, 2023

On the seventh day of CADD Care, the CADD team gave to me… an Innovyze tip!

One of the trickiest (and time consuming) stages during site design can be the placement of stormwater controls, inlets, and green infrastructure. I’ve burned through many a roll of trace paper attempting to accommodate inlets on a redevelopment project; but there is a better way! With Autodesk InfoDrainage Pro and the 2D analysis deluge tool, you can easily analyze your existing site and quickly understand the context of existing drainage patterns. With this knowledge stormwater management and layout is a breeze.

InfoDrainage can analyze your Civil 3D surface model (or even your LandXML, Lidar and ASCII terrain files) after a simple import and triangulation process. Using the 2D deluge tool, InfoDrainage can indicate areas of ponding and inundation on the site. Identifying local low points, outfall locations, and flow lines can give designers and engineers a head start on their stormwater design. Once the design is underway InfoDrainage Pro will be a vital tool to assist engineers throughout the design process through performing hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, network and green infrastructure sizing, and round-tripping design updates to Civil 3D.

Check back tomorrow to see what other tips and tricks the CADD team has in store for the remaining Twelve Fourteen Days of CADD Care.
